I finally finished Wild at Heart. I kept re-reading sections over and over to trying to really absorb the message. Page 172 was quite a challenge to who I am.
I'm not sure the book is 100% theologically sound, but the overall theme is what's wrong with us men.
I heard Norman Wakefield speak on this subject at a home school convention back when Zac was around 5. His message was to call "out" our sons. He explained that communities called out their sons to join the men when they were around 12 or 13. Up until that point sons spent time with their mothers, but once they reach 12 or 13 they belonged to their fathers.

The message is an important one to all of us Christian men. I think all men in this country would benefit from reading this book.
I think that's the problem with me at my Church, we lost our sense of adventure. 20 years ago we were growing fast and people were getting saved. Each week seemed more exciting then the previous we focused on people, salvation and helping each other. We opened ourselves up to Jesus and made ourselves vulnerable.
Then somewhere we lost our sense of adventure. We were letting God lead us, but we got too smart for God. We knew better. We started taking endless survey's. We tried to make our programs entertaining. We did this all to be "seeker sensitive". What happened? Church attendance declined. We dried up.
